Thank you for trying out Spokes! As an early release, you may encounter occasional bugs as features are actively being polished. Spokes is developed as a one-person operation. If you find value in this software, consider buying a license to support its continuous development.
Last year I became a father and, more generally, children have been appearing in my friend group at an alarming rate. We are all a bit uneasy about posting cute baby pictures to Discord, Messenger, etc... We want to preserve our children's privacy as much as possible. I started developing Spokes after trying all the other self-hosted options to replace Discord and finding that none of them perfectly matched what we needed. We settled on Matrix / Element, but have never been completely satisfied.
The goal of Spokes is to replace Discord for friend groups and families. Here are the base features that Spokes supports today:
Public chat channels for all members of the server.
Completely self-hosted Voice / Video channels.
Channel encryption to protect against database snooping.
